“Safe and efficient”: The drug agency confirms the reliability of the papillomavirus vaccine

“No new security signal” has been identified between January 2023 and June 2024 for the Gardasil vaccine, administered to high school students as part of the HPV vaccination campaign.

“Safe and efficient”. The ANSM, the National Medicines Security Agency, has published its report on the Gardasil 9 vaccine, administered as part of the HPV vaccination campaign or human papilloma.

“During the period from January 2023 to June 2024, a new security signal with this vaccine was not identified”: this means that no new risk was observed in relation to the vaccine. All data available to date confirm that the vaccine is safe and effective, “writes the ANSM.

Almost 420,000 adolescents received a dose of vaccine during the 2023/2024 campaign, according to Public Health France (SPF).

287 cases of undesirable effects, including 206 without gravity

Vaccine campaigns have been carried out since 2023 in fifth grade classes to prevent papillomavirus infections, which is the source of cervical cancers, but also certain throat cancers in particular.

Studies in countries later than France in this vaccination, such as the United Kingdom, clearly show that it has drastically reduced the risk of cervical cancers in women.

Children are also concerned with avoiding polluting their partners during their lives, the virus that transmits sexual.

Importance of 15 -minute vaccination surveillance

Since the last synthesis of the ANSM, which dates back to October, “no new risk has been found in relation to the vaccine,” the agency said. During the covered period that ended last June, 287 cases of undesirable effects were identified, including 206 without gravity, as temporary pain at the injection point. Other effects after the vaccine, such as headache, fatigue, fever, discomfort or even brief knowledge of knowledge are also known, which may appear shortly after vaccination and disappear quickly.

In some cases, however, a severe allergic reaction has been reported. This type of effect exists “with all injectable vaccines,” recalls the ANSM.

The agency also insists again on the risk of discomfort and prevention of injuries in case of fall, which implies keeping adolescents under surveillance a quarter of an hour after injection.

“This undesirable, unusual and quickly resolved effect can sometimes be accompanied by tremors or rigidity,” said the ANSM.

A teenager had died during the 2023-2024 campaign after a fall due to the discomfort after vaccination. The next evaluation is scheduled for spring of 2025.
