“I don’t want other deaths related to meningitis.” In an interview with Oueest-France, Health Minister Yannick Neuder returned in more detail about the “Vaccination Campaign” on a large scale that refers to 100,000 young people from March 15 to 24 years in the territory of Rennes Métropole.
This was announced on Friday by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) in Brittany after several cases of meningitis.
“We face a meningococcal meningococcal meningitis particularly virulent. Remember that since July, meningitis has caused the death of 50 people in France,” says the minister.
At the beginning of February, in the Rennes region, one year of 18 he died on Monday, February 3, after this infection on Monday, February 3. “Expert analysis have shown that it was, every time, the same bacteria and especially the same tension,” said the minister.

It is also in this school, the Rennes School of Business, where three cases were identified, that vaccination will begin this Monday.
“We have already experienced the Covid period that was traumatic, if there is the proliferation of a disease that we do not want to continue,” explains BFMTV Baptiste, a student of this school.
The survey by Ars Brittany and Public Health France “did not allow an epidemiological link between the two cases of cases”, which suggests a circulation of this tension in the territory of the Rennes metropolis.
“This situation is characterized by a greater number of infections than usual in this territory,” said the Ars.
“Few side and very effective effects”
According to Ars, this campaign is created “to protect the most exposed population from serious ways.”
“On the one hand, we have cases of meningitis for which people are not covered and, on the other, a vaccine that has very few side and very effective effects. In this context, the AR say that it was necessary to catch up with vaccination and vaccines to adolescents against the various meningococcal serotypes,” confirms Auurel Guejd, the emergency doctor and health.
Vaccination will spread in several consecutive weeks “to allow the entire target population to access vaccination” according to Ars, which announces the arrival of the Minister of Health Yannick Neuder on Monday in the capital of Breton.
In France, an increase in cases of invasive meningococcal infections (IIM) was observed, including those related to serogroup B, during the 2024-2025 “season with a particularly high number of cases in January,” adds the ARS.
