Marriage would triple the risk of obesity in men, indicates a study by scientists from the National Institute of Cardiology in Warsaw in Poland and transmitted by The Guardian and Sky News.
To reach this conclusion, scientists have analyzed medical and general health data of 2,405 individuals on average of 50 years. From these, they were able to determine the links between the increase in body weight and age, the marriage state, mental health and other factors.
Less worried women
And the results are evident. Therefore, the study reveals that married men had 3.2 times more likely to be obese than single men. On the other hand, this peculiarity is not visible in the women studied.
In general, marriage also increased the risk of overweight by 62 % in men and 39 % in women, it is still indicated.
According to Dr. Alicja Cicha-Mikolajczyk, who participated in this study, precautionary measures are at the origin of this gender disparity. According to her, obese women are “more often stigmatized” and, therefore, are more likely to take measures to pay attention to their weight.
The Polish study also highlights another important variable: that of age. Therefore, every year of additional age increases the risk of overweight by 3% in men and 4% in women, and the risk of obesity of 4% in men and 6% in women, indicates the tutor.
This work will be officially presented during the 32nd European Congress on Obesity that must be carried out from May 11 to 14 in Malaga, Spain. According to a study published on March 4 that was spent in The Lancet magazine, more than half of adults worldwide will be overweight or obesity by 2050.
