The influenza epidemic, particularly strong this season, is ending throughout the French metropolis, informed this Wednesday, March 19 of Public Health France, no region is in an epidemic situation in France.
In Continental France, “the activity of influenza was decreasing in the city and in the hospital in all age groups,” summarized Public Health France, in a weekly evaluation closed on Sunday, March 16.
All France regions are now in a “post-epidemic” position, an intermediate state between the normal epidemic and a declared epidemic. Until then, the new Aquitaine was the last metropolitan region to remain beaten by the epidemic.
On the other hand, it continues abroad in Guadalupe, Martinica, Guyana and Mayotte.
A deadly epidemic this year
The flu was particularly violent in the 2024/2025 season, being killed among the oldest and sending many children to the hospital.
Several factors have contributed to this situation, including the joint traffic of several strains and the limited efficiency of the vaccine deployed this season, especially among those over 65. It began on October 15, the flu vaccination campaign, along with Covid, ended on February 28.
Despite the improvement of the epidemic situation, health authorities need to be careful: “Although in a clear decrease, the rate of positivity for the flu remained high (…), indicating an always active circulation of influenza viruses,” takes into account the France of public health.
Bronchiolitis, except in Mayotte, which remains in epidemic, and Covid generally remains stable at a low level.
