“The patient, originally from the meeting, remained in Martinica the second half of March and presented symptoms evocative to the disease,” said the health authority in a press release.
An epidemic of Chikungunya is unleashed in Meeting Island, where 6,000 cases were recorded last week.
The Chu of the Indian Ocean island also activated the White Plan this Friday, which allows certain operations to be deprogrammed or remind staff in hospitals to deal with the influx of patients.
“Preventive Measures”
The Regional Health Agency (ARS), the France of Public Health, the local community of Martinica and the municipality in question have deployed “preventive measures necessary to limit the propagation of the virus”.
These actions include the investigation and destruction of mosquito places, treatments against adult mosquitoes if necessary, as well as the awareness of the inhabitants of the district impacted.
“Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted mainly by the bite of the female mosquito of the genus Aedes, particularly Aedes aegypti in Martinica,” Ars warns.
This mosquito is also a dengue and zika vector. In Martinica, the number of dengue cases experienced a sudden rebound at the end of March. 160 new evocative clinical cases were recorded from March 24 to 30 against 45 the previous week. However, these are “sporadic cases”, Public Health Judge France in its last bulletin.
