An epidemic that has just ended in France, and another that must already be anticipated. The General Health Directorate has issued a “DGS Cirador” and transmitted it to pharmacists nationwide to prepare vaccine actions for the 2025-2026 season.
“With regard to the difficulties of supplying and distributing doses in the territory during the winter of 2024-2025, it is important to mobilize to guarantee an adequate supply for the 2025-2026 campaign,” writes Grégory Emery, general director of Health.
However, to date, “the added inventory of anticipations for seasonal flu vaccines indicates a very insufficient volume, 10 % lower than the objective.”
A worrying situation when pharmacies lacked vaccines last January, in the midst of an epidemic phase. The General Directorate of Health even, in April 2024, this time, warned about the “insufficient” volume of vaccine orders.
Increase early preditions by at least 10% at the end of April
This year again, the current level of orders “would not allow to meet the vaccination needs of the French population and improve vaccination coverage rates, particularly for the directed public.”
“Consequently, before April 30, 2025, pharmacists must check (at least 10 %) the volumes preceded in trivalent vaccines reimbursed to obtain sufficient national coverage,” writes Grégory Emery.
The influenza epidemic has caused an unprecedented number of deaths among the elderly for several years in France due to simultaneous traffic of several strains and, consequently, to the slightest efficiency of the vaccine.
