Depression, psychiatric disorders: risks of brutal interruptions of treatments due to shortage

Marie-Claire denouual, pharmaceutical and co-president of the Federation of Pharmaceutical Unions in France, deplores persistent drug shortages of prescribed drugs during psychiatric disorders.

What a diapine, sertraline, venlafaxin … In pharmacies, many molecules lack the call. Prescribed medications to help patients with psychiatric disorders (bipolar disorders, depression, schizophrenia, etc.) have shortened or exhausted for weeks.

Marie-Claire Denouual, Pharmaceutical and Co-president of the France Federation of France, the alarm with France sounds.

“It is likely that patients see their interrupted treatment. The situation is worrying. And anxiety, for already fragile people,” alerts the specialist.

As the Union of Marco Pharmaceutical Unions (OPPO) recalls, since January 1 of this year, the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products (ANS) published supply tensions and stock jumps in psychotropic medications.

The risk of retirement

These “essential” psychotropic medications are part of “fundamental treatments essential for the management of long -term medicines” of patients. When patients do not have access to their treatments or an adequate substitute, the consequences can be destructive. The union of the union thus evokes “clinical destabilizations that reach hospitalizations.”

According to the Vidal, interruptions in treatment depressions can lead to mood disorders, pseudo -spelling symptoms (headache, chills, pain), sleep disorders, digestive disorders …

On May 13, the drug security agency authorized pharmacists to “dispense directly, exceptionally and temporaryly, a masterful preparation of Sotralin”, that is, molecules manufactured directly by pharmacists. The compositions in the active ingredient are exactly the same as drugs sold in pharmacies such as Zoloft.
