Towards a new specific regulation of electronic cigarettes in 2026? In an interview in Oueest-France published this Thursday, May 29, the Minister of Health, Catherine Vautrin, is developing a new plan for eradicating the tobacco of the places that welcome children. If the VAPERS will not be affected, the government may consider specific measures for this practice.
When asked about the topic of vaping among young people, the executive member reveals some clues under study. “In addition to the prohibition of smoking in public places, work with ANSE (National Security, Environment and Work Agency) and the High Health Authority (HA), so that we reduce the authorized nicotine rate in products,” he explains to our colleagues.
“It’s about reducing the phenomenon of addiction and promoting weaning,” supports Catherine Vautrin.
Some perfumes soon banned?
In the viewfinder, in addition to the concentration of nicotine, the highly addictive molecule, the aromas of the cigarettes. Mint, red fruits, mango, mojito, coffee, “unicorn” … Today, merchants compete in inventiveness to offer eccentric tastes, which find in particular popularity among young people, as the phenomenon of “puff pastry” showed.
“I also want to reduce the amount of aromas of vapeo products,” the government member said Thursday. The horizon to configure these measures is quite close. Scientific and technical opinions are being developed to “fix the details” of this plan. The measures must enter into force “at the end of the first half of 2026”.
Several studies have highlighted the addictive effect of perfumes used in electronic cigarettes together with the nicotine. One published by the prestigious McGill University in Canada even highlighted the harmful effects of the “red fruit” perfume on the immune defenses of our lungs.
A few days ago, it is another product contained in these liquids that created concern. The National Committee against Smoking (CNCT) accused manufacturers of highlighting metatin, as a healthier alternative to nicotine, despite its extremely high addictive potential.
