With only 10 years, Lena has been fighting for four years against a weird bone tumor in the spine, Chordoma. A disease that won on Tuesday, June 3 in the commune of Annéot (Yonne), informs our public good colleagues.
Lena suffered a cordoma, a form of tumor that touches the bones and soft tissues called Sarcomas. This type of cancer represents only 3% of all bone tumors. Every year, the disease is detected in a single person of one million.
Back pain as first symptoms
Léna’s disease was detected in 2021 after a magnetic resonance, while the girl suffers from back pain that she cannot get rid of.
“A Chordoma type tumor is generally developing slowly, often without symptoms at the beginning, and can then cause symptoms for years before doctors discover it,” said the Chordoma Foundation in its place.
At the beginning of their management, the treatments followed worked, but Léna underwent a recurrence a year later. “This time, I was behind the head, in the continuity of the column (vertebral),” said his mother.
LEENA is operated successfully. But, again, cancer returns in the form of two tumors on the right side of the thorax. Then, the girl follows a clinical trial, but the tumor spreads and the bad news falls. Doctors explain to Lena’s parents that there is nothing more to do.
Innovative therapy in the United States
The latter launched a solidarity kitten last September in the hope of helping the girl fly to the United States to benefit from innovative therapy. Almost 200,000 euros were harvested and Léna could prove these treatments, which proved to be ineffective.
In recent months, the girl’s state of health has decreased. The girl had arrested chemotherapies at the end of May and had returned home, in the town of Annéot.
A few days before his death, he had attended despite his fragile health in an equestrian race, the race in the ring in Semur-en-Auxoxois on Saturday, May 31, which his mother won and dedicated himself to her.
