The measles epidemic has killed two people in the 700 people in France since the beginning of 2025, which already exceeds the 2024 report, said on Monday, June 23, June 23. This contagious disease reappears throughout the world, especially due to vaccination weakening.
“From January 1 to May 31, 2025, 658 cases of measles were declared (…), a total that already exceeds in more than 35% the number of cases declared in 2024 (483),” said the agency, including 14% of the cases imported after a stay abroad (Marrocco, Vietnam, Romania, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Algerian, Guinea, Guinea …).
The number of cases seems to have reached a peak in March at the national level, but remains at a high level, especially in certain regions, added public health.
In Continental France, El Norte (117 cases), the Bouches-Du-Rhône (50 cases), Isère and Haute-Savoie (39 cases each), Hérault (27 cases), Paris (25 cases), Sena-Saint-Denis (22), Pas-de-Calais (22 cases), Val-Dois (20 cases) concentrated more than cases of cases. No case has been reported abroad.
One in ten cases experienced a complication
Since the beginning of 2025, just over a third of the cases have led an emergency or hospitalization (including ten in intensive care), and more than one in ten has experienced a complication, including encephalitis. Two immunocompromised people, whose age has not communicated, died. Hospitalizations and complications have mainly affected babies and young children, but also young adults.
“The 4 most worried age classes, which represent almost half of the cases, were children from 1 to 4 years (15 %), adolescents aged 15 to 19 (13 %) and 10-14 years (12 %) and adults over 40 years (12 %),” specifies the France of Public Health. “The highest measles notification rate was observed in babies under 1 year.”
Messers causes fever, respiratory symptoms and rashes, and sometimes more serious complications, such as pneumonia and cerebral inflammation that can cause serious sequelae, even death.
In all cases since the beginning of January in France, for which vaccination was recommended (people for a year and was born after 1980) and whose vaccination status was known, just over 70% were not vaccinated or vaccinated incompletely.
The return return of measles refers to many countries, in the context of insufficient vaccination. In Europe, as in the United States, for example, rates are less than 95% recommended to avoid propagation.
More than 1,000 measles cases have been recorded since the beginning of the year in the United States, 25 years after measles has been officially declared thanks to vaccination. It is the worst epidemic in “probably 30 years,” said the AFP in the AFP, the pediatrician a US UNS, Paul Paul, judging the real number of real cases potentially “about 3,000, or even more.”
