Good news for people with heart failure. At the end of May, the Startup Ile-de-France Corw-based in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine) managed to establish a cardiac pump model for the first time in a patient in heart failure, at the end of May, in Sydney.
A month later, the latter “is much more than thirty days after the intervention and left the hospital,” saying that “feeling much better, without fatigue or lack of breath,” Corw said in a statement.
This Thursday, July 10, Louis de Lillers, Managing Director of Corw, the announcement to RMC, plans to use its beginning even more if the state of the first implemented patient is perpetuated.

A revolutionary bomb
Specifically, this technological feat is found in the pump design. Using a undulating membrane instead of a rotor, this new pump should reduce serious complications associated with current devices, such as stroke and bleeding, but also to allow patients to resume daily activities.
If there are already heart respiratory assistance pumps, the latter eliminates the effects of heartbeat. Once established, the heart is still beating, but impossible to take the pulse of the patient in the wrist. “It doesn’t have it anymore,” summarizes the founder of Corwave.

100 million euros in billing per year
However, the announcement of success, 30 days after the implementation of this pump, will be taken with tweezers. The sector has also seen disappointments. For a long time, it was presented as a flagship of French innovation in this area, the Carmat group, which manufactures a temporary artificial heart, announced this month the opening of a judicial administration procedure.
Corw, who has 80 employees, intends to obtain a turnover of 100 million euros per year. The startup already has more than 80 million euros in funds, particularly with specialized health funds such as Sofinnova Partners and Novo Holdings, and thanks to the support of the European Innovation Council (EIC) and BPIFRANCE.
According to Les Echos, the marketing of the Corwave system should take place within three years in Europe. Until then, another 50 operations must have been successful. These bombs, backed by the social coverage of most European countries, will be marketed between 90,000 euros in Europe and $ 130,000 (110,900 euros) in the United States.
