BFMTV Information. Listeriosis case: several other patients reported in Europe, an “international epidemic”

While the French authorities launched a health warning last week after the appearance of 21 cases of Listeriosis possibly linked to cheese consumption, the European Health Agency has listed other cases throughout Europe. Patients should be deplored in Belgium, the Netherlands or Norway.

France is not the only country affected by cases of Listeriosis. On Tuesday, August 12, the Hexagon health authorities were playing the alarm after the appearance of 21 cases of Listeriosis, including two mortals, with a “possible link” with the consumption of cheeses subject to a retreat.

But, as BFMTV learned from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), France is not the only one that will be affected. In a document we could consult, the ECDC indicates other infections in the European soil.

“Four other countries (Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway) reported four confirmed cases,” the ECDC said in the document communicated to BFMTV.

“The cases (…) declared that they had consumed soft grass cheese” involved, while 40 products of different brands are affected by a large -scale memory. The patients identified outside France are people from 35 to 70 years, who have presented symptoms between April 14 and July 9, 2025.

Australia, Switzerland, Spain, United States … “An international epidemic”?

Should we expect to see the cases appear on a global scale? The ECDC lists that cheeses have been sold in around thirty countries: Australia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, United Kingdom, South Korea, Spain, Japan or even the United States.

“To protect consumers and, as a preventive basis, food products have been withdrawn. Food security authorities in countries related to food distribution implement official control measures, in particular the publication of public warnings,” explains the European Health Organization.

Keep in mind that no case has been listed in the following countries before August 13: Austria, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Given this “international epidemic”, the European organization demands general prudence, before a disease that can manifest “up to 28 days” after pollution. All countries that remain vigilant and communicate the new cases detected are requested.

The Chavegrand company, which proceeds to the reminders of its products, had deplored a “extremely rare” incident and made sure that it had straightened its health controls. “” We have multiplied by 100 the number of analysis in products and equipment to ensure that there would be no pollutant. All our employees who have been working very hard since June are surprised by this news, “said the producer last week.
