“I shouldn’t have listened to Samu”: Esteban’s mother, a young man who died despite several emergency service calls, testifies

The Esteban family, a 24 -year -old who died on January 30 despite several calls to Samu, will present a complaint for involuntary homicide against the center of the Le Mans hospital. His mother testifies in BFMTV.

“The fault will always be some, I think.” More than six months after the death of his 24 -year -old son, after several calls in vain at Samu, Dorothée explains this Monday, August 25 at BFMTV to want to “go to the end” to get answers.

Esteban Vermeersch, 24, died on January 30, 48 hours after having made a first call to the samu of the center 15 of Le Mans in pan. Affirming, he had explained that they could only breathe in half and suffer chest pain.

The emergency service has completed a muscular problem, no help has been sent. Similarly, the next day, after a very difficult night, and a second call from the mother who “had never seen it that way.”

Esteban’s mother today explains to BFMTV the “guilt” that has eaten them since then, she and her two 20 -year -old daughters. “We blame ourselves without having acted faster,” he explains.

“So that the Samu does not move, it had not said enough, that it had not been clear enough,” testifies BFMTV, along with Esteban’s sister also present the day of the drama.

“I shouldn’t have listened to Samu”

Shortly after the second call to Samu, her mother tried to take him to the emergency room, but she never got there. “When he left the house, he collapsed, he made a cardiac arrest,” he said. Esteban stopped breathing. Then, his mother began a cardiac massage before being finally transmitted by firefighters. After 50 minutes, the young man was transferred to the center of the Le Mans hospital. It was operated there, in vain. He died the next day.

“I asked to have the medical report. I told myself that I had not done the cardiac massage well,” Dorothée asks. “From the first call, I shouldn’t have listened to Samu, I should have heard me and get it to the emergency room,” deplora.

From now on, she wants to “sound the alarm” because “this kind of thing should not happen.” “I know they lack personnel, that the budgets are no longer the same, but we are talking about life there,” said Esteban’s mother.

The family wishes to file a complaint for involuntary homicide against the center of the Le Mans hospital, which did not follow up on the various attempts of judicial mediation. “We are going to go to the end to recognize their mistakes. The hospital has never said ‘yes, we made mistakes’, and it hurts,” says Dorothée. “I think we can’t advance as long as it is not recognized.”
