The number of legionellosis cases rises to 45 in saboya, eight hospitalized people in resuscitation

In the department of Savoy, 45 people were positive for legionellosis, a lung disease, caused by a bacterium present in water.

The number of cases of legionellosis detected in the Albertville sector since mid -September has increased to 45 after the confirmation of 28 new cases, said Savoy Prefecture on Wednesday night at a situation point.

Among these 45 confirmed cases, “8 were hospitalized in the resuscitation service, 6 of which are still,” said the Prefecture and the Regional Health Agency (ARS) in a statement. On Tuesday, a first evaluation of this “group” reported on the death of a hospitalized patient.

“Other suspicious cases identified since September 16 are being analyzed,” add state services. All people reside or have attended the Albertville sector and “investigations are still in the process of determining the sources (s) at the origin of this pollution.”

“Water networks”, sources of pollution

“En esta etapa, no se favorece la hipótesis”, indique la prefectura y el ARS, que explican que las fuentes de contaminación por parte de Legionella pueden ser “redes nacionales o públicas de agua doméstica (duchas, duchas, baños para remolinos o jet, spas, jacuzzis, etc.), pero también otras fuentes como los sistemas de pulverización de agua (fuentes decorativas (quemaduras, quemaduras, seeds)”.

“This type of team is the object of research in the current situation in Albertville,” he said. The analysis takes several days.

Legionellosis is a disease that affects the lung, caused by a bacterium, legionelle. Contamination is performed by inhalation of water micro-drips contaminated by the bacteria.

The disease, which essentially affects adults, can be serious in depressed immuno people, cartography charges, chronic respiratory pathologies, diabetics or even smokers.

In Auverne-Rhône-Alpes, they declare between 200 and 400 cases of legionxas every year in Ars, and more than 300 cases were in 2024, including 14 in Savoy, said the ARS. The disease is fatal in about 10% of cases.
