The government (for now) says no, but the majority of the population is ready for the return of the mandatory mask on public transport. According to an Odoxa survey for le figaro published this Sunday, 76% of the French declare themselves “in favor of reinstating the mandatory use of masks on all public transport”.
58% of those surveyed even declare themselves in favor of restoring the mandatory use of masks “in all public places”.
However, the majority of those surveyed do not wear a mask on public transport. Only 46% say they do it “systematically”. 51% maintain a safety distance of at least one meter from the people they meet and 59% regularly use hydroalcoholic gel. Finally, 87% of the French say that they “wash their hands regularly”.
Braun “trusts” the French
The government excludes for the moment the obligation to wear a mask. The Minister of Health, François Braun, repeated this Friday saying “trust” the French to respect the barrier gestures.
“You have to put on the mask on public transport, on trains,” said the minister, “let’s go together”
“The virus is circulating enormously. In other times, we would have paralyzed the country. I think they are wrong not to make masks mandatory for transport,” Patrick Pelloux, president of the French Association of Emergency Physicians, reacted on the set of BFMTV . .
Subsequently, the doctor said he “understands” the attempt by the Minister of Health, François Braun, to empower the French, but for him it is a waste of time. “He is vain, we have reached the end. You already saw when you take transportation, nothing changes ”, he laments.
Survey carried out on a sample of French people interviewed via the Internet from December 7 to 8, 2022. Sample of 1,005 French representatives of the French population aged 18 and over.
