Faced with a possible strike by doctors during the holidays, Braun calls for “responsibility”

The young collective “Médicos del mañana”, which had started the general practitioners’ protest movement at the beginning of December, had called for a “hard and unlimited strike” starting on December 26, if their demands remained unanswered.

A few weeks after a first strike by general practitioners, and faced with a possible resurgence of the movement during the end-of-year holidays, François Braun calls for “responsibility”, in an interview with Sunday newspaper (JDD).

“Without questioning the right to strike, I call for responsibility, because the period between Christmas and New Year is always complicated, especially this year due to the triple epidemic. I am pleased to see that the main unions have not called a stoppage in these crucial days”, said the Minister of Health.

In the context of the negotiations between the liberal doctors and the Health Insurance Fund, François Braun affirms that “the discussion is open and continues”. He before continuing: “I hope that this conventional negotiation is positive and allows us to better appreciate the work of doctors and support the efforts that we ask of them to better respond to the difficulties of access to health of our fellow citizens.”

Double the consultation fee

At the beginning of December, in Paris, Toulouse, Rennes, Marseille or Nantes, thousands of liberal doctors had closed their practices take to the streets and demand price increases. The 110,000 liberals in office demanded in particular a doubling of the consultation price, from 25 to 50 euros, to better coincide with the European average, around 45 euros.

The unions present the rise in prices as a “shock of attractiveness” towards medicine in the city, which is in great need of personnel, crushed by administrative tasks to the detriment of care, and which no longer attracts young people. A suffering that weighs on the daily life of practitioners.

The young collective “Médicos del mañana”, which had started the movement and united the unions to its cause, called for a “hard and unlimited strike”, starting on December 26, if their demands remained unanswered.
