The Covars (health risk monitoring and forecasting committee), successor to the Scientific Council, issued a new opinion on the epidemic situation in the country on Monday.
The committee particularly recommends “enhanced communication” on the use of self-assessments. A measure that could “strengthen the level of ownership of risk management by the French”, especially in a context of “important intergenerational miscegenation” during the holidays.
“This approach had already been used and understood by families in 2020 and 2021,” adds Covars.
Vaccines and barrier gestures
In addition to self-tests, Covars’ opinion insists on the importance of barrier gestures in the fight against the pandemic. It emphasizes hand hygiene, wearing a mask indoors, and improving air quality in these poorly ventilated indoors.
In addition, scientists call for a reinforcement of the vaccination campaign, that of the supplementary booster dose continues to stagnate. On this issue, “Covars once again recommends seeking the support of the population and caregivers”, it can be read in the opinion dated Friday and published this Monday.
The latter particularly insists on “the altruistic dimension of prevention” of Covid-19, particularly in the context of school holidays and end-of-year celebrations.
