Covid-19: vaccination open to certain children from 6 months to 4 years

Very young children eligible for these specific doses of Pfizer’s vaccine are those who are at risk of developing a severe form of the disease or who live with an immunocompromised person.

New expansion of vaccination against Covid-19. The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announces this Thursday the opening of the vaccination campaign for children from 6 months to 4 years at risk of severe forms and who live in the environment of an immunocompromised person.

The DGS specifies in a press release the scope of this campaign. Children 6 months to 4 years of age who are eligible to receive three specific doses of Pfizer’s vaccine include those who are at risk of developing a severe form of the disease or who have one of the following particularly high-risk conditions:

  • Congenital heart disease
  • chronic liver disease
  • Chronic heart and respiratory diseases (including severe asthma that requires ongoing treatment)
  • Neurological diseases
  • Primary or drug-induced immunodeficiency
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Hematologic tumors
  • sickle cell disease
  • trisomy 21

Three doses to be administered for “optimal protection”

“To these pathologies can be added situations in which, on a case-by-case basis, based on a strict assessment of the individual benefit/risk ratio, doctors specializing in organs and rare diseases can offer vaccination”, specifies elsewhere the General Directorate of Health.

In addition, this extension of the vaccination campaign also affects children from 6 months to 4 years who live in the environment of an immunocompromised person as part of the cocoon strategy.

“The three doses will finally have to be carried out, to guarantee optimal protection,” finally stresses the DGS.
