A temporary decision – France 3 Regions mentions a period of six months – proposed by the hospital management due to lack of staff. Currently, nine nursing positions out of twenty-four are vacant.

“We are also missing 20% ​​of the doctors. We have all reached the end of what we could do. And the nights are destabilizing and massacring for health,” estimates Yves Lemée, head of the establishment’s emergency-Smur division. with the national media.

After The Central RepublicGilles Delaporte, president of the medical commission for the establishment of Gien, points to a decision “that is not taken lightly”.

However, he assures that “SMUR will also continue to intervene if necessary, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You have to protect it.” For its part, the ARS promises to set up a teleconsultation booth, operational from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at the entrance to the Gien hospital.

This closure has caused anger and concern among the people of Gien. “I have a mother who is old. If she falls and she calls me, what do I do? Where do I go? Orleans?” Asks one of them from France 3 Regions.

On the Change.org site, a petition called “against the emergency closure at night at Gien hospital from March 1, 2023” It has been published. It collects just over 1100 signatures.
