Promoting the three PCP MEPs of the European Parliament in the European Parliament (EP), a petition challenging the increases in the reference rate by the European Central Bank (ECB).with another increase already announced for July.
“Following the ECB’s decision to raise the benchmark rate to 4%, after eight consecutive hikes, ahead of another hike in July, PCP MEPs in the EP took the initiative to promote a letter signed by several delegates from different member states and political groups addressed the European Council, the European Commission and the ECB denouncing the consequences of the ECB’s decisions,” the communist delegation revealed in a statement.
MEPs defend, among other things, the interruption and reversal of the interest rate hike and “to ensure that the impact of the hikes already decided is mainly supported by the growing profits of the banking sector and not by households”.
On Tuesday, at the Central Bank Forum in Sintra (Lisbon), the President of the ECB Christine Lagarde reiterated that inflation in the Eurozone is too high and will stay that way for too long, and that the central bank remains committed to meeting the 2% inflation target.
