Pedro Nuno Santos says he is a PS deputy who “supports the government” and is a candidate “for nothing”.

Former minister Pedro Nuno Santos said on Tuesday that he will be a PS deputy who will support the government, ruled out the possibility of being a critical voice of the party leadership and stressed that he is currently not a candidate for anything.

These views were conveyed by the former Minister of Infrastructure and Housing on his return to the Assembly of the Republic, after six months in which his mandate was suspended, to take up his duties as PS deputy elected by the constituency of Aveiro .

Before entering the hemisphere, Pedro Nuno Santos answered several questions, including whether he will have a critical voice regarding António Costa’s PS leadership. Pedro Nuno Santos began by answering with a question: “But why?”

“We have a very well-delivered government. The PS and the government have a lot of work ahead of them. I am a deputy who supports the government”he stressed.

Before entering the plenary chamber, he answered another question about his possible candidacy for the leadership of the PS.

“At the moment I am not a candidate for anything”he said.

In his statements to journalists, the former JS leader tried to convey the message that his return to the Assembly of the Republic after resigning from the government about six months ago is “a normal return of someone who has been a parliamentarian for many years used to be”. year”.

“I have been in government for several years and now I am returning to parliament. At the moment I am an under 230 deputy. This is the house of democracy and I am very proud to be a deputy of the Assembly of the Republic”he declared.

When asked whether he is awaiting the content of the report of the TAP management committee of inquiry – which should arrive in the House of Representatives today – the former minister replies: “No, I am not”. And nothing more was said about matters related to TAP.

Regarding his work as deputy, he said that he will not know which committees he will integrate until the next legislature, in September.

“The PS-fraction will make adjustments [nos deputados] committees at the beginning of the legislature. But I can’t be the one to give the information. I won’t have an idea until the start of the next legislature,” he said.

After speaking to journalists, Pedro Nuno Santos entered the hemicycle through the door usually used by PSD delegates at around 2:15 pm, about ten minutes after the plenary session had started.

Before taking his seat, he greeted several deputies — the first being Marcos Perestello — with goodbyes, kisses to deputies and nods to those farther away — and blew a kiss to former health minister Marta Temido.

The former minister sat in the last row between deputies elected by his circle, those of Aveiro: Hugo Oliveira – who took the opportunity to take a “selfie” with him -, Joana Sá Pereira and Cláudia Santos.

Shortly afterwards, the leader of the PS, Eurico Brilhante Dias, went there, greeted Pedro Nuno Santos and sat down next to him, and the two exchanged a few words.

At the beginning of the plenary session, the secretary of the Council of the Assembly of the Republic, Maria da Luz Rosinha, had informed about the resumption of the mandate of Pedro Nuno Santos, effective today.
