Without wanting to comment on the strike figures of the National Health Service (SNS) doctors, the Minister of Health has asked the unions to make efforts to bring negotiations with the responsible ministry to a successful conclusion.
“It takes two to dance the tango. There are two parties to a negotiation and both parties must show the same openness. The Ministry of Health has shown it,” said Manuel Pizarro in Carcavelos, emphasizing that “there must be an effort from both sides”.
“We have to find a solution together,” he stressed, showing respect for the three-day hiatus.
“With regard to primary health care, the government has already presented a clear proposal, a remuneration model linked to performance, which means an average increase of 60%, which is higher than what some unions claim. There are areas where there are more users. Left, Mariana Mortágua.
“Contrary to what happens in emergency situations, it doesn’t take that much overtime to provide primary health care,” he stressed.
Pizarro was still concerned about the impact of the World Youth Day strikes, but stressed that the “union stressed that minimum provisions will be respected”.
This Tuesday, doctors began a three-day national strike to force the government to submit a concrete proposal to revise the salary table, which the health minister promised to send to unions on Monday.
At the call of the Independent Arts Union (SIM), the strike will take place simultaneously with a strike by general practitioners for overtime, which started on Monday and will last a month.
Last Friday, at the end of a negotiating meeting, SIM’s secretary-general accused the health ministry of “failing to present the negotiating documents”, claiming that he would only go to the next meeting with custody if he received the government’s proposals in advance.
The health minister assured on Monday that he would come up with a proposal to review the pay scale for doctors and deplored the “excessive criticism” that has been leveled at the way negotiations, which began in 2022 with predecessor minister Marta Temido, have so far failed to reach an agreement between the parties.
In the negotiation phase of the negotiation protocol, in July 2022, the government and unions agreed to include the National Health Service physician salary table in the negotiations.
