Eventful return to the National Assembly. After a debate on Ukraine on Monday, the deputies met on Tuesday for the traditional session of questions to the Government, during which the president of the Renaissance group, Aurore Bergé, raised a question on domestic violence. She evoking, without naming it, the Quatennens affair and immediately causing an outcry from the benches of La France insoumise.
“As soon as you get slapped, go report it,” said the Yvelines deputy, to applause from her side.
Adrien Quatennens admitted in September to having slapped his wife, from whom he is in the process of divorcing, which led to a controversy over the management of violence against women within his party. Jean-Luc Mélenchon was particularly criticized for praising the “dignity” and “courage” of his colt, now under investigation.
“For several weeks, we have praised the virtue of those who recognize acts of domestic violence,” denounced Aurore Bergé. “For several weeks we have been listening to those who speak of their ‘love’ for a man who beats his wife, we ignore the rules of the rule of law.”
Call at the request of Danièle Obono
These statements provoked a virulent reaction from the deputies of La France insoumise, Danièle Obono thus raised her voice and spoke forcefully to Elisabeth Borne, who responded to Aurore Bergé defending the policy put in place by the government to tackle the scourge of violence against women.
Called to order for the first time by Yaël Braun-Pivet, continued MP LFI. “You continue to invective the Assembly and the presidency,” denounced the president.
“I make a call to order, with entry in the minutes”, launched the president.
Figure of the young guard of La France insoumise, deputy Adrien Quatennens, investigated after a complaint filed for domestic violence, announced in September that he was “retiring from his role as coordinator” of the movement, acknowledging the violence against his wife. He was also not present in the hemicycle on Tuesday.
