“It’s The Godfather”: LFI deputy Bernalicis attacks Macron after the Kohler and Dupond-Moretti affairs

Ugo Bernalicis accuses the President of the Republic of covering up for his relatives implicated in justice, “revealing a confusion of functions and a mafia drift of power.”

The deputy La France insoumise (LFI) Ugo Bernalicis questioned the government on Tuesday in the National Assembly about the accusations of the general secretary of the Elysée Alexis Kohler and the Minister of Justice Éric Dupond-Moretti. The deputy has attacked the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, accused of protecting his relatives, because neither of the two involved will leave his post for the time being, the Executive announced.

“The Macron of 2022, president of the rich, turns out to be an oligarch mixed with financial interests. He is no longer Jupiter, he is The Godfather,” said Ugo Bernalicis, referring to the Francis Ford Coppola film that portrays one of the families. more important. of the American mafia. “40 legal cases related to macronie have been identified since 2017”, explains the deputy, “are you, the friends of Emmanuel Macron, here to serve or to serve you?”.

Emmanuel Macron “is criminally irresponsible, but not his relatives whom he now covers, revealing a confusion of functions and a mafia drift of power”, launched the elected LFI.

“Let Justice do its job”

Éric Dupond-Moretti, charged in July 2021, is accused of having taken advantage of his position to settle scores with the magistrates, which he denies. The Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR) ordered this Monday a trial against him for illegal taking of interests. Alexis Kohler was also charged with “illegal appropriation of interests, but he is involved in the investigation of his family’s links with the shipowner MSC. He also contests the charges.”

It was the government spokesman, Olivier Véran, who responded to Ugo Bernalicis’ question, recalling first of all that at the moment it was about accusations and that neither of the two men mentioned had been convicted.

“The conviction is, for example, that of Mr Mélenchon when he was convicted by the Bobigny court in December 2019 for having exerted pressure, act of rebellion in a meeting, provocation, act of intimidation towards a repository of “public authority and towards a magistrate”, Olivier Véran launched in response, recalling that the LFI leader was at that time a deputy and even leader of the group.

“We let justice do its job and we do not comment on a justice case in progress,” the government spokesman later added.
