Chega wants children with both parents working to be given priority in finding vacancies in daycare centers and public nannies, arguing that it is a matter of social justice, the party announced on Saturday.
In a statement, Chega explains that it has presented a draft resolution in which Recommends that the government “amend” the current law on free access to public daycare centers and social security nannies by adding a number to be determined to the criteria for admission and priority in vacancies, giving “priority to children who belong to households whose parents or guardians have a job that prevents them from taking care of their children”.
According to that party, it appears that “children with working parents and guardians cannot be enrolled in day care centers as they do not have priority in the right to a vacancy”.
A situation that, Chega points out, “is socially unfair because it negatively discriminates against working households and, because they cannot enroll their children or students in day care centers, leads many fathers and mothers to stop working, at least part of their lives .” the day of work to take care of their children”.
The party led by André Ventura points out that this situation “causes economic and labor losses, vis-à-vis households that have no work obligations or in which there is a member who can take care of children or pre-school pupils”.
The party also recalls the importance of attending a daycare center in education: “If children have access to quality daycare centers, a range of positive outcomes can be observed in the long run. Studies have shown that children who attend daycare centers, more likely to achieve academic success, complete their studies and lead a more successful professional life.
Chega deputies, however, recognize as “positive the adoption of the law” that “progressively extends the gratuity of nurseries and of the nannies of the Social Security Institute and of the ordinances that extended the measure to children attending childcare centers of the private network and that defined “priority criteria, when it comes to the inclusion of siblings in the same institution or in equipment belonging to the same entity”.
On Friday, the president of the National Confederation of Parents’ Associations (Confap) denounced that some families are resorting to telecommuting to stay at home with their children due to the lack of vacancies in daycare centers.
“Many families could not find a place for their children,” Mariana Carvalho told Lusa news agency, noting that the confederation had received several reports of parents unable to find places in daycare centers.
After the measure of free crèches in the social and solidarity sector, in force since last year, the shortage of vacancies has been one of the main obstacles for families, even leading the government to anticipate the activation of the additional offer of the lucrative network of kindergartens, because in July there were no vacancies in some municipalities.
