Rui Rocha: Water, environment, education or health are IL’s obligations

Water and agriculture, environment and energy, education or health are among the 10 commitments that the president of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Rui Rocha, presented this Saturday for the next decade during the speech at the party’s “reentré” in the Algarve.

Rui Rocha said this in front of an audience of 200 people at the Armação de Pera fortress “Today is the day to present solutions for Portugal, it is not only the day to criticize what is wrong, to say that many things are going wrong”.

“That’s true, we know that, but today is the day to present solutions for Portugal and that’s what we’re going to do today,” he introduced, clarifying that the “10 10 year commitments for Portugal” are “transformation commitments” for the country, “after 30 years of Central Bloc rule”.

The first commitment presented was that of “Water, Agriculture and the Primary Sector”, with Rui Rocha opining that “Portugal is in water shortage in some places and glut in others” and “A measure must be taken with courage” , which is “bringing water from where it is abundant to places where it is lacking”.

The president of IL defended it “I need to invest in water retention, in the maintenance of current dams, many of which are weakened” and he pointed to “Environment and Energy” as the second commitment for the decade, although he referred to more details in a “manifesto which is being prepared and will be presented to the Portuguese in the near future”.

“It is a very important topic and we will not be left out of the discussion on the environment and energy, on the contrary, we will get into it, with progress, scientific, investment and progress solutions, against what the design of the left, which is stop Portugal”, he added.

Education was the third point raised by Rui Rocha, who said he could not accept that this area “continues in Portugal in the hands of Lisbon bureaucrats and politicians, who decide when to recruit, who to recruit, what programs are, who does, who does not”.

“In Lisbon, they don’t know anything about this issue. The revolution must be carried out. It must be carried out locally, so that we have a different education, because the elevator must be a social elevator, it cannot be a socialist one.” elevator,” he thought.

Also among the goals presented for the next 10 years is the “strengthening of the rule of law” and the president of IL announced that the party will “propose the change of the electoral system”.

“We will not want to see another 600,000 Portuguese votes without representation in the next parliamentary elections, that is not political representation, we cannot accept that,” he affirmed.

Housing, where “freezing rents is not a solution” or “recourse to forced expropriation mechanisms”, as well as “destroying local housing” was another area pointed out by Rui Rocha, who asked for more construction to have more supply and suggested “moving construction VAT, end of rent freeze” and “standardization of permit criteria”.

The taxes paid, either by the self-employed or by companies, were also mentioned by the political leader: “Those who think it is the state that creates wealth, people create wealth, it is companies, next to them we have become,” he promised.

Health was not forgotten either, with Rui Rocha giving the example of the Algarve, where there is a “hospital center with a pole in Faro, another in Portimão, and people who are in Albufeira have to travel tens of kilometers in one direction to the other, and when they get there, they don’t know if they have a doctor, if they have an emergency.”

The president of IL will maintaining universal access as it exists today, but with the “difference” that a “person from Albufeira, whether he has a private door, a social one or a public one, chooses where to go and does not have to travel tens of miles”.
