Montenegro announces five proposals to reform fiscal policy

In a speech very marked by criticism of the government’s fiscal policy, Luís Montenegro this Monday at Festa do Pontal, in Quarteira, presented five proposals for essential measures: a reduction (with equity) of 1,200 million euros to IRS for Portuguese families as early as 2023 , maximum IRS of 15% for young people up to age 35, mandatory update of IRS levels due to inflation, mechanism for parliament to decide what to do with excess tax revenue and not tax performance or productivity bonuses in public board up to 6% of the salary.

“Families and businesses have never paid so much tax. Never before in Portugal have so many taxes been paid. What is the stamp this Prime Minister leaves on his legacy? A statesman? A reformist? It is not. He is the tax record holder! All years break last year’s record Socialism pays like never before António Costa has nothing to offer Portugal’s future.

Still on the tax burden, the PSD accuses the government of “immorality” and failure to refund what it charges “too much”, promising to present a tax reform program soon. “We want to make the system fairer,” he stressed, assuring there is “room” to do so.

“The PSD is neither populist nor demagogic. We are not the barren opposition. We are the responsible opposition,” he stressed.

At the beginning of the speech, the Social Democratic leader spoke in an atmosphere of great joy to those who listened to him. “It is this popular, open and lively PSD, attentive to the life of every Portuguese, that the country needs,” said the leader of the PSD, who especially thanked the presence of the Algarve and… Luís Marques Mendes .

“He is not active and at the forefront of the political analysis most receptive to the Portuguese, and he has been independent, but he has accepted the challenge of being here. We like that he is among us. His presence comes as a result of what he has we have seen in the life of the PPD-PSD, the reunification of the Social Democratic family, the opportunity to debate with each other despite the differences. This family also includes Francisco Pinto Balsemão, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Pedro Santana Lopes, Manuel Ferreira Leite, Durão Barroso, Rui Machete, Luís Filipe Menezes and Rui Rio. We will be credible if we start from our history,” Montenegro emphasized, calling all PSD mayors present at the party shouted on stage. flanked by Carlos Moedas (Lisbon) and Carlos Careers (Cascais).

“We know that Portugal expects a lot from the PSD. We know that we have a responsibility to take Portugal on a new path. A new hope, a new future. With Guterres and António Costa, the country ended up in a quagmire, with Sócrates and António Costa the country ended up in bankruptcy and with Costa and his dolphins Portugal is experiencing one of the deepest impoverishments in the EU The PS has been ruling Portugal for almost 8 years 8 years correspond to two full legislatures Portugal can’t be in much longer this circumstance,” he argued, complaining about the delays in the modernization of the railway line and in the choice of the new Lisbon airport.

“The situation is getting worse. Income per capita is one of the worst in the EU and the OECD. In 2021, 60,000 people, half of them with higher education, emigrated and 42% are young people between 20 and 29 years old. has a future,” he added.

The PSD started its political comeback this Monday with the traditional Festa do Pontal, in Calçadão de Quarteira.

Last year, Luís Montenegro took advantage of the Pontal Festival to present a social emergency package ahead of measures to combat inflation that would be announced by the government.

Two weeks after the Festa do Pontal, the PSD organizes its Summer University, between August 28 and September 3 in Castelo de Vide, with the participation of the former President of the European Commission Durão Barroso and the former leader of the CDS Paulo Doors.
