Should Quatennens keep his MP assignment? Ruffin suggests donating part to associations

According to François Ruffin, Adrien Quatennens, who has not yet returned to the floor of the National Assembly, could choose to receive only part of his parliamentary allowance to make it comparable to the “average salary of a Frenchman”.

After acknowledging several violent gestures towards his wife, Adrien Quatennens withdrew from his duties as coordinator of La France insoumise, keeping his parliamentary mandate and the compensation it entails (just over 5,500 euros net per month, Editor’s note). A situation that you can question, knowing that the deputy from the North was not present in the hemicycle for the return to parliament.

For François Ruffin, this question of remuneration is not “the heart of the matter”, but, questioned this Wednesday on BFMTV-RMC, he proposed a possible solution to this situation.

“If we say tomorrow that he decides to keep a salary comparable to that of the Frenchman and that he gives it to associations and others, it may be a measure that completes”, his return bet, explained the Somme deputy.

“Do not become a deputy to earn money”

Re-elected under the slogan “Picardie Debout”, during the last legislative elections, he sat in the National Assembly with the rebels. According to François Ruffin, this measure makes all the more sense since Adrien Quatennens is “a man who did not become a deputy to earn money but out of conviction to defend the interests of the people in the country.”

After his election to the legislative elections in 2017, François Ruffin promised to keep only the Smic of his remuneration as a deputy, indicating that he would pay the rest to “works”. The elected official then considered it necessary “for everyone to be in a reality according to their income and their assets.”

In short, François Ruffin advocates a “national charter of good conduct” and not only for “political parties”, but also for “associations and companies”, for example. This would thus allow “knowing how it will happen”, guaranteeing “the protection of women victims” and allowing “those involved to also exchange”. Because at the moment, he says, “everyone has their own way”, without “legal framework”.

François Ruffin remains in favor of internal procedures. “In the parties we should not wait two or three years for the justice to do its job to sanction and separate the aggressor [de] attacked him,” the deputy told France Info a few days ago.
