PSD believes that PR’s visit to Ukraine expresses the feeling of the Portuguese

PSD leader Luís Montenegro said on Wednesday that the visit of the president of the republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to Ukraine expresses the “solidarity and feeling of the Portuguese people”.

“There is no doubt that the President of the Republic, by expressing the solidarity of the Portuguese people, interprets what is the feeling of the people, what is our respect and, finally, our emotion, our heart that all those who suffering accompanies. unbearable attacks on their lives and their heritage every day,” said the Social Democrat while visiting Santo Antão da Barca, in Alfandega da Fé, in the Bragança district.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa today embarked on a two-day visit to Kiev, Ukraine, from Poland, where he was on an official visit.

Luís Montenegro admitted that he had “not a millimeter of doubt” about which side he is on, and defended that all efforts to achieve peace that could be made by the authorities of each of the countries concerned and by international organizations “should be taken to the maximum deepened”.

“I believe that the President of the Republic, as the supreme magistrate of the country, interprets very well the feelings of the entire Portuguese people to go to Ukraine to express all the solidarity, all the help that the Portuguese people, the Portuguese institutions, the sovereignty that Portugal has given to a people who are oppressed and who have been under constant threat for more than a year and a half,” he stressed.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine “does not conform to any rule, neither from the perspective of international law nor from the perspective of what is most important of all, which is respect for human rights,” he stressed.

For the chairman of the PSD, the violation of the fundamental rights of the civilian population, which has marked this conflict in Ukraine, cannot leave anyone in doubt.

The president of the republic said today that he is in Kyiv to continue the Portuguese presence and solidarity with Ukraine, and to participate in Independence Day celebrations on Thursday.

“The goal is multiple. First, it is to continue the Portuguese presence. The Prime Minister, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, several times the Minister of Foreign Affairs, now that the President of the Republic has come. show their solidarity in all domains,” continued Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa shortly after disembarking at the Kiev-Pasazhyrskyi railway station.
