Resignation in case of “judicial proceedings”: Holland addresses Macron on Dupond-Moretti

On the sidelines of a symposium at the Institut de France in Paris this Wednesday, François Hollande reminded Emmanuel Macron of his “rule” while the dismissal of the Guardian of the Seals before the Court of Justice of the Republic splashes the executive. “Lui Presidente”, any minister involved in legal proceedings had to leave the government.

Never stingy with a lesson for his successor, François Hollande gave one more to Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday afternoon on the sidelines of a symposium on the reform of institutions organized by the Institut de France in Paris.

Although the Elysee and the government have decided to keep Éric Dupond-Moretti in his duties as Keeper of the Seals despite his referral to the Court of Justice of the Republic, François Hollande recalled the “rule” in force during his mandate in such a case .

“It was my rule”

“I am president”, he began in front of the press in reference to his famous anaphora, “I had a rule and I applied it”. The former head of state then developed:

“This rule was that any minister who was in a judicial process had to leave. Without a doubt, it was an unfair rule since later there could be a final decision different from the accusation, but it was my rule and everyone knew it.”

Éric Dupond-Moretti was returned this Monday to the Court of Justice of the Republic, after a preliminary examination, for “illegal taking of interests”. Justice seeks to know if the minister took advantage of his place in the government to settle the disputes that opposed certain magistrates when he was a lawyer.
