A strong message. The French ambassador will remain in Niger despite pressure from the coup leaders, Emmanuel Macron, who opened the 29th edition of the ambassadors’ conference, said on Monday.
“I think our policy is the right one. It is based on the courage of President (Mohamed) Bazoum, on the commitment of our ambassador on the ground, who remains despite the pressure, despite all the statements by illegitimate authorities,” declared the President of the Republic.
The military junta in power in Niger since the July 26 coup ordered the departure of the French ambassador to Niamey, Sylvain Itté, on Friday, giving him 48 hours to leave the country.
