New roles for Olivier Klein. The former minister delegate for Cities and Housing was appointed head of the Interministerial Delegation for the Fight against Racism, Anti-Semitism and Anti-LGBT Hate (Dilcrah), after the Council of Ministers this Wednesday.
“The issue of discrimination has been at the center of my associative and political commitment for almost 40 years, and the fight against discrimination related to origin or sexual orientation seems extremely important to me in the future,” said the former mayor of Clichy-sous-Bois to AFP.
Your old mission is now divided into two positions.
This body, under the authority of the Prime Minister, “exercises an advisory and leadership role with the ministries, particularly in the areas of education, police and justice, but also culture, urban, digital, overseas policy, etc.” you can read on the government website.
Olivier Klein, who became minister in July 2022 after general elections, paid the price for the latest shakeup, which took place this summer. The perimeter of the former councilor of one of the poorest cities in France is now shared by Patrice Vergriete, Minister Delegate in charge of Housing, and Sabrina Agresti-Roubache, Secretary of State in charge of the City.
Olivier Klein wants to advance the “tests”
The new inter-ministerial delegate promises that the “road maps” on “the fight against discrimination linked to origin” and on “discrimination against LGBT people” “are already ready and that “we will have to give them life”.
Olivier Klein promises, in particular, to advance the “tests”, underlining his “sensitivity to the issue of popular neighborhoods and the discrimination that their inhabitants may experience”. Emmanuel Macron had already mentioned the subject during his visit to Marseille last June.
Other reinstated ministers
This practice consists of presenting two comparable profiles for the same application but with a different specific variable such as ethnic origin, disability, gender to better identify situations of discrimination.
The arrival of the former minister at the head of Dilcrah is not trivial. This type of role is usually held by a prefect. However, it is less rare to see former ministers relocated to prestigious institutions, as evidenced by the recent appointment of Pap Ndiaye as ambassador representing France to the Council of Europe.
Or, before him, those of Amélie de Montchalin with the Organization for International Cooperation and Development (OECD) and of Christophe Castaner with the French concessionaire Société for the construction and exploitation of the Road tunnel under Mont-Blanc.
