David Lisnard represents himself at the head of the Association of Mayors of France

Cannes Mayor David Lisnard, president of the Association of French Mayors (AMF) since 2021, announced on Wednesday that he will be running for a second term in November, along with his PS vice-president, André Laignel.

“We will present a union list that brings together all political sensitivities,” the two elected officials said in a statement, praising their “agreement” signed two years ago that “allowed all decisions to be made unanimously.”

Therefore, right and left will once again go together to the congress of mayors, at the end of November in Paris, which will renew the authorities of the AMF.

A first victory in 2021

A rising figure of the Les Républicains party, David Lisnard, 54, succeeded François Baroin in 2021, already establishing an alliance with the immovable socialist mayor of Issoudun, André Laignel, 81, first vice president since 2008.

His partner won on the centrist list headed by the UDI mayor of Sceaux, Philippe Laurent, and supported by part of the right and Emmanuel Macron’s camp.

On this occasion the candidates have until Monday, September 11 to make themselves known. So far, no other candidate has run against the outgoing leaders.
