“Russia must be helped”: the “terrible slip” of an RN deputy

“We have to help Russia,” MP Annick Cousin said at the European Affairs Committee on Wednesday, before acknowledging a “terrible slip” in the process.

A slip that probably would have done the National Rally well. The party, which took out a loan from Russia in 2014, and Marine Le Pen, whose ties to Vladimir Putin are often denounced, have sought to break their Putinophile image since the start of the war in Ukraine.

“Terrible Slip”

Annick Cousin’s intervention this Wednesday in the Committee on European Affairs will not help. When she had just spoken, the deputy for Lot-et-Garonne declared:

“Yes, we must help Russia.” Before recovering: “Sorry. Terrible slip.”

The elected official is not the only MP from Lot-et-Garonne who has caused controversy in recent days. His Renaissance counterpart, Michel Lauzzana, said he was ready to “work hand in hand with the RN deputies” in his territory. As he explained that he wanted to fight “face to face against LFI”, which had provoked strong reactions from the rebels.

Faced with the controversy, Michel Lauzzana then indicated in a press release that his “comments have been distorted” and assured BFMTV that he wanted to “combat both extremes with the same force.”
