Montenegro expects Costa to give the explanation he “has not yet given” in the Council of State

PSD president Luís Montenegro hopes that the prime minister will make the “statements he has not yet given” at the meeting of the Council of State next Tuesday, as he “has already had a lot of time” to “give the answers” .

“I hope that the Council of State can finish the work started and, as far as I see in the news, the Prime Minister will give the explanation that he has not yet given, because he had to make a trip and therefore, he has had a lot of time to study the answers”he said.

The PSD leader spoke to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to the Coudelaria de Alter, in the Portalegre district, during an action that was part of the “Sentir Portugal” program promoted by the party.

The Council of State will meet this Tuesday to finalize the analysis of the country’s economic, social and political situation started at the July meeting, and also to take stock of the international situation.

This meeting of the political advisory body of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will take place at the Belém Palace in Lisbon from 3 p.m.

Portalegre is the 13th district elected by the President of the PSD, following the commitment he made at the 40th Congress to spend one week a month in Portugal’s various districts.

Luís Montenegro has been touring the 15 municipalities that make up the Alto Alentejo district since Sunday and ends this tour in Portalegre on Wednesday.

Montenegro again challenges Costa to cut taxes

Montenegro backtracked this Tuesday, stressing that there are conditions for cutting taxes and challenging António Costa to “leave words” and move forward with a tax cut.

‘Let’s leave the words alone, Dr. António Costa, stop saying you’re a doer and do it, stop saying you want to make and execute a contract. Lower taxes, there are conditions to lower taxes, but don’t lower taxes if you want not he wants”he claimed.

The PSD leader spoke to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to the Coudelaria de Alter, in the Portalegre district, during an action that was part of the “Sentir Portugal” program promoted by the party.

“If doctor António Costa wants to betray the middle class, he will insist not to cut taxes in 2023 and raise the expectation that this will only happen for the future, because next year we will have an election campaign”he added.

Luís Montenegro also criticized the position of the Governor of Portugal, Mário Centeno, on this issue.

“Lower taxes [António Costa] on income from work in 2023, because it has been proven that the tax and premium income – Dr. Centeno say what he wants – higher than what is included in the state budget, it is much higher, it is more than two billion euros above what the state budget is. target for the whole year, in the first seven months of the year”warned.

Asked by journalists about the position of Mário Centeno, who warned that “there is no budgetary slack”, Luís Montenegro said the governor of Banco de Portugal “is not, or at least should not be, a political agent”.
