Suicide of a harassed teenager: Gabriel Attal announces the opening of an administrative investigation

A 15-year-old teenager, victim of bullying during the previous school year, committed suicide on Tuesday at his home in Poissy, in Yvelines. The Minister of National Education announced on Wednesday the opening of an administrative investigation into the circumstances of this harassment. Justice must determine if the act of the young man is linked to this harassment.

After the suicide, on Tuesday, of a teenager victim of bullying, the Minister of National Education, Gabriel Attal, assured before the BFMTV microphone his “support, that of the government, of the entire educational community” towards the young man’s family, received by the minister this Wednesday.

“It is a tragedy that mourns us all and words are very few in the face of such a tragedy. Our hearts all ache with their family, their loved ones, their companions,” he continued.

An administrative investigation

The minister announced the opening of an administrative investigation “so that all the light is clarified” on the harassment suffered by the young man. This harassment, consisting of “bullying” and “repeated insults”, was reported to the establishment at the end of 2022.

The teenager’s parents, as well as the students in question, were received at the establishment. But in an exchange of letters with the school, the parents of the harassed young man denounced that the measures taken were not enough, according to the Minister of National Education.

The administrative investigation will be carried out in parallel to the judicial investigation opened by the Versailles prosecutor’s office. In particular, you will need to determine if your death is related to the harassment you suffered. “The environment will be fixed, for the rest we must be very careful at this stage,” the Versailles prosecutor’s office told AFP.

This 15-year-old teenager, victim of bullying during the previous school year, committed suicide on Tuesday at his home in Poissy, in Yvelines. He had returned this year to a different establishment than the one in which he had been harassed. “This young man had the right to live happily and in peace,” Gabriel Attal insisted on Wednesday, stating that “every drama is one more drama.”
