“The world is burning and you are obviously looking elsewhere”: Tondelier destroys Macron’s letter

The national secretary of the EELV responded to the Head of State’s letter by deploring “the small place given to ecology.”

In a letter consulted by AFP, Marine Tondelier, national secretary of the EELV party, responded to the letter sent by Emmanuel Macron to the party leaders after the meeting in Saint-Denis on August 30. The environmentalist criticized “the small place given to ecology”, with “two sentences in six pages”, in the president’s letter.

“The world is burning and obviously looking elsewhere,” laments Marine Tondelier, referring to the formula used by Jacques Chirac in South Africa in 2002.

“We implore you to reject the possibility of greenwashing. We do not need communication on the subject to clear our conscience, nor excuses to reject your responsibilities, nor pretexts to postpone essential decisions for later,” the head of the Greens also writes in this consulted letter. by the AFP.

“Loneliness”

The leader of the environmentalists also calls, like her Nupes allies, for a referendum on the repeal of the pension reform and calls for the establishment of proportional representation, especially in legislative elections.

Regarding participation in future meetings with the president, Marine Tondelier declared on Friday: “If there are meetings where we can talk about ecology, I will be there. Expecting less loneliness than during the 12 hours of the last meeting.”

“If it is to debate the hours of the referendum on immigration and attend the honeymoon between Macron and the extreme right, it will be without me,” he also indicated.

“Such a restrictive framework, so closed,” laments Roussel

After his marathon meeting on August 30 with the various leaders of the party, Emmanuel Macron sent them a six-page letter in which he addresses numerous issues, with the idea in particular of making a proposal “in the coming weeks” on a modification of the use of referendum.

This letter expected “proposals for modifications or additions by Sunday evening.”

The head of the PCF, Fabien Roussel, responded during the night from Saturday to Sunday to demand “unpublished answers.”

“How can we move forward and dialogue in such a restrictive and blocked framework?” Fabien Roussel also wrote, calling for more public spending.

Manuel Bompard, political coordinator of LFI, for his part, indicated on Sunday that he did not want to “give in to the president’s orders.” “Maybe we will respond in the next few days, we’ll see, his deadline is not ours,” he said.
