A meeting that will be held without the socialists. The PS announced this Tuesday, during a national meeting, that it will not participate this Saturday in the march against “police violence” and “systemic racism”, organized by a hundred associations, unions and parties, including LFI and ELLV, according to reported information Figaro which BFMTV.com can confirm.
“Mixing genres”
“There are slogans that are wrong, like saying that all police officers are racist,” explains to BFMTV.com a socialist leader who maintains that the party of fists and roses “refuses to cast shame on an entire profession,” although certain elements “pose problems.”
Furthermore, the socialists regret a “mixing of genders” and fear, in this sense, an “instrumentalization of the abaya” of the participants. “I do not want to be used by the government that agitates this story or by those who use it as an identity tool,” indicates the elected official cited above.
A convention on the future of the police
The party intends to undertake, between now and November, “fundamental work”, with a “convention” on “the future of the police”. It involves “discussing with the majority of actors” – in particular holding hearings “with the police forces and with associations” – on topics such as “usury”, “training” or even the 2017 law on the refusal to achieve.
Like the socialists, the communists will be absent this weekend. Questioned by France Info, Fabien Roussel gave reasons similar to those mentioned by the socialists.
