“Normally”, he does not respond to controversies on X (formerly Twitter). This time was an exception. This Wednesday, the Minister of Health, Aurélien Rousseau, responded to the “wild tweets” that attack him, as well as his management of the Covid-19 epidemic.
“No, we are not using the ‘fear strategy,'” he said in a tweet. “For Covid, as for the rest, our only strategy is transparency and trust in science. Neither guilt nor coercion.”
The Health Minister, however, did not name any of his detractors or their specific attacks. As a reminder, the ministry brought forward its autumn recall campaign by two weeks “in view of the epidemiological circumstances.” It was supposed to start on October 17th but was brought forward to Monday, October 2nd.
Limited but increasing incidence rate
Precisely this calendar change was addressed by the member of the Government during an interview with the newspaper The Mountain published this Wednesday:
“When we collectively noticed that there was a jump and that contamination was increasing again (…) I asked Covars whether or not he recommended advancing the vaccination campaign. The answer was yes.”
Aurélien Rousseau also referred to a key indicator in monitoring the epidemic: the incidence rate. Today it stands at 41 new daily contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants, with a slight upward trend.
“Precisely because we have an average increase in the slope we have triggered the anticipation of vaccination,” underlines the former director of the ARS of Île-de-France.
The upcoming recall campaign focuses on vulnerable people, but a person who is not considered a “target” can also receive a new dose for free.
“Trust” policy
Also in the Auvergne newspaper, the Minister of Health responded to a question regarding the generalization of the use of the mask. He claims to have “confidence” in the French “who have known about Covid since January 2020.”
Which means that it does not consider it necessary to make the use of this protection mandatory, as has happened at different times over the last three years.
If there are no instructions, there are recommendations. In this case, the Government “extremely” recommends the use of a mask for the sick, symptomatic people and on public transport, a protection that not only limits the spread of Covid-19, but also the spread of flu, bronchiolitis, gastroenteritis. , etc.
