The leader of the CDS-PP/Madeira, Rui Barreto, indicated on Wednesday that the party did not participate in the negotiations on the parliamentary advocacy agreement with the PAN, after Sunday’s regional parliamentary elections, stressing that “there is no harm in this” .
“This matter was not up to me. It was an agreement between the leading party of the Somos Madeira coalition [o PSD] and that is correct, because it should be the leading party of the Somos Madeira coalition that initiates contacts with the parties that showed their willingness on election night to reach the most robust agreement possible.”he said.
Rui Barreto spoke to journalists at the Palácio de São Lourenço in Funchal, after being received by the representative of the republic, Ireneu Barreto, who this Wednesday started listening to the parties that achieved parliamentary representation, after Sunday’s regional parliamentary elections.
The leader of the Madeiran centrists, number two on the coalition list of Somos Madeira, downplayed the dissatisfaction expressed by party chairman Nuno Melo about the choice of the PAN over the Liberal Initiative.
Speaking to Lusa on Tuesday evening, Nuno Melo stated that the solution is “the result of an agreement between the PSD/Madeira and the PAN, in which the CDS did not participate”, being the “agreement of the president of the regional government”, Miguel Albuquerque.
“On the continent, I understand, the national leader of the CDS has all the legitimacy and authority to express opinions”said Rui Barreto this Wednesday, and then added: “In Madeira, the CDS/Madeira also has its autonomy to decide, taking into account regional particularities, which are neither a little nor more or less the same as the national ones, is best for the interests of Madeira and Porto Santo”.
Rui Barreto, who is also regional secretary of economy in the PSD/CDS-PP coalition government, downplayed the ideological issues regarding the PAN.
“The issues raised by the PAN at national level that conflict with the national CDS have no reason to exist in the Autonomous Region of Madeira”he said, emphasizing that “the matters necessary to conclude the agreement [de incidência parlamentar] These are peaceful matters”.
“And therefore there will be no problem at all”he added.
Madeira’s centrist leader emphasized that the CDS-PP is a “stable commitment agreement with the PSD”founded in 2019, when the PSD lost its absolute majority in the autonomous region for the first time and said the Somos Madeira coalition would “complete political and constitutional conditions to form a government and present a government program”.
“As leader of the CDS, I will and will fulfill all commitments made within the framework of the coalition with the PSD and especially with the people of Madeira and Porto Santo”he claimed.
Rui Barreto, on the other hand, said that despite there being a parliamentary advocacy agreement with the PAN, “permanent channels of communication must be maintained with anyone who comes for good,” admitting “one-off agreements” with other forces represented in the PAN. the regional parliament.
‘We cannot close the door to anyone’he emphasized.
The PSD/CDS-PP coalition won the regional legislature on Sunday, but fell one deputy short of an absolute majority, and a parliamentary advocacy deal with the PAN was announced on Tuesday, winning a mandate.
In Sunday’s elections, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition elected 23 deputies, PS 11, JPP five and Chega four, while the CDU (PCP/PEV), BE, PAN and IL each elected one deputy.
