The President of the Republic opined on Wednesday that “there is an awakening” among the Prime Minister and the Government to accelerate the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), with Portugal finding itself in a privileged situation compared to others European partners.
“There is an awareness among the Prime Minister and the government of the fact that time is passing quickly and that we are still in a situation that many European partners prefer.”said the head of state in Albufeira, in the Algarve.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told journalists on the sidelines of the conference ‘Tourism Factor of National Cohesion’, promoted by the Confederation of Portuguese Tourism, that it is essential to accelerate its implementation, knowing that bureaucratically “It is often difficult because we have a fixed deadline that cannot be exceeded”.
“When I see the government stepping up concrete actions related to the PRR, it means that all Portuguese must commit to ensuring that its implementation goes smoothly”he emphasized.
The President of the Republic said this “pleased with the European decision to increase European PRR funds for Portugal”.
“It is a recognition of the fact that Portugal was more heavily involved during the pandemic and on the other hand suffered indirect consequences of the war. [na Ucrânia]”.
In the opinion of the Head of State, this increase “it exempts the government from asking for more loans because it increases the share of European funds that do not have an interest penalty, which would be the case with funds for more loans.”.
‘It’s good news for all Portuguese’he concluded.

Marcelo says young people have been the “driver of concern” about the climate
The President of the Republic, regarding the throwing of paintballs at the Minister of the Environment, was of the opinion on Tuesday that the protest of young people shows that they are concerned about climate change and that this is not a new reality in Portugal.
“It is no longer a new reality. It is a universal reality that arrived in Portugal two or three years ago”said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on the sidelines of the conference “Tourism factor of national cohesion”.
“This is positive because youth have largely been the driving force behind these climate concerns in recent years”Marcelo insisted.
The Minister of the Environment was attacked with green paint by three young climate activists during a CNN conference on energy transition in which the companies Galp and EDP are participating.
In statements to journalists, the President of the Republic considered this “the forms of struggle are more or less effective”However, it is not up to you to judge its effectiveness.
“Effectiveness comes from mobilizing the Portuguese towards this ambition that is very important for everyone”he said.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa argued that in the fight against climate change “it can be said that more is needed and faster” and that “time is wasted”.
