Teachers: PSD proposes to pay for service in five years

The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, announced on Saturday that the party will propose the phased payment of teachers’ service over five years, with 20% allocated each year.

After dedicating a week to education, the president of the PSD in Porto announced some of the party’s proposals for what he considered “a sector in crisis” and which range from kindergarten to reinstating the service of teachers.

To the activists present at the initiative, Luís Montenegro announced his intention to pay out teachers’ service in five-year increments “at a rate of 20% per year,” a measure that, he said, was “compatible is with the rigorous management of resources”.

The leader of the Social Democrats also said that in this matter he will ask the Technical Budget Support Unit (UTAO) and the Public Finance Council to calculate the exact budgetary impact of recovering service time, adding that, after have listened to the teachers’ representatives, “an impact of 250 to 300 million euros can be estimated”.
