The State Secretary for Economic Affairs on Wednesday refused to classify Autoeuropa’s forced closure as a “management error”, instead attributing it to a “new reality” of disruptions to which companies will have to “adapt”.
“I cannot qualify what is happening here as a management error, when there is a flood in Slovenia in mid-August that stops a part that is not even supplied directly to Autoeuropa. Therefore, Autoeuropa itself would not even be able to provide this part to anticipate this decline,” Pedro Cilínio said during a hearing in the Labor, Social Security and Inclusion Committee in parliament.
The government official was heard together with the Secretary of State for Labour, Miguel Fontes, following a request from the Bloco de Esquerda (BE) to discuss the situation of Autoeuropa workers, who returned to work on Monday, albeit partially, after ‘fired’ due to a forced four-week production stoppage due to a lack of parts.
For Pedro Cilínio, the basis for this shutdown was “disruptions in supply chains caused by the lack of certain materials and by climatic phenomena, which are becoming increasingly common”, which is “a new reality to which the sector will have to adapt”. .
