The minister of the presidency said on Friday that the government and social partners are negotiating an increase in the national minimum wage to 820 euros in 2024, so that the salary base for public services will never be lower.
Mariana Vieira da Silva spoke in statements to journalists at the Ministry of the Presidency, after meetings with three trade union structures of public administration on annual salary negotiations and the 2024 state budget (OE2024).
The government’s proposal provides for an increase in the salary base for civil servants by 6.84%, to approximately 821 euros.
When asked whether the government is proposing an increase to 820 euros for the national minimum wage, the minister replied that ‘the negotiations are moving in this direction’. [na Concertação Social]” adding that, with the planned update, “the remuneration base for public administration remains approximately 1 euro above this value”.
However, the value of the minimum wage has not yet been finalized, he said.
“Negotiations in the context of social dialogue continue” and any change in the minimum wage will affect the basic remuneration of the public administration, Vieira da Silva stressed.
The income agreement signed a year ago during the Social Consultation provides that the national minimum wage will be set at 810 euros in 2024.
