Budget 2023: Gabriel Attal wants to work with the opposition to avoid using 49.3

The Delegate Minister of Public Accounts believes that without dialogue with the opposition it will be impossible not to use 49.3.

A desire for dialogue to ease tensions? While the Delegate Minister of Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal, works on the finalization of the budget for the year 2023, the opposition is not very cooperative.

“I am surprised by certain statements, in particular by LR, that indicate their intention to vote against, even before the bill is known,” criticizes the minister in the parisian this Saturday.

If this does not change, he believes that the executive runs the risk of having “no other option than the use of 49.3”. “I don’t come close to this perspective,” she assures, however.

“There will be an increase” in energy bills

In an attempt to escape a forced passage to the National Assembly, Gabriel Attal intends, together with Bruno Le Maire, to ask the opposition to “work on the 2023 budget even before it is finalized”. An opportunity to anticipate certain blocking points with members of certain political groups.

It is not the first time that a member of the Government has raised the use of 49.3 on the subject of the budget in recent weeks. More offensively, Bruno Le Maire declared on Wednesday that the use of this maneuver does not depend on the government, but “on the opposition.”

Among the issues that may be discussed with the opposition: the tariff shield. If Gabriel Attal assured that it would be renovated, he does not deny that an increase in the bill of French households should be felt. The minister assures that an increase of 10 to 20% is a “possibility”. His only promise: “there will be an increase, but it will not be 40% like in Germany.”
