BE announced this Monday five budget proposals to prevent “the beginning of the end of the SNS”, including a 15% increase in the salaries of all professionals, a risk and hardship allowance and an exclusivity regime.
“The issue is very simple: either the government will find a solution for health workers, or it will not be able to keep part of the SNS with its doors open. This is the moment we are living in,” warned BE leader Mariana Mortágua. during a press conference in Lisbon.
According to the block coordinator, this is “the beginning of the end of the SNS and the only person responsible is the PS government.”
Mortágua has announced five measures to “start solving the health crisis” that it will present during a discussion in the specialty as proposals for changes in the 2024 state budget (OE2024).
Proposals include a voluntary access exclusivity regime and a “15% increase in all salaries of NHS professionals from the first day of 2024, including in-house doctors”.
“Apply a risk and hardship allowance to SNS professionals, which will be reinforced for professionals working in emergency situations and in particularly difficult contexts,” he added, arguing that this should be negotiated with unions “within a period of three months”.
The BE also wants “full financial, management and administrative autonomy for the groups of health centers” and also that “all SNS units can hire on a permanent basis professionals necessary to carry out their activities without government approval”.
