IL leader announces intention to reduce IUC by two euros per month

The Liberal Initiative will propose a cut of the Single Circulation Tax (IUC) by two euros per month, up to a maximum of €25 per year, until its extinction, its leader announced today.

“We will not only propose the withdrawal of the increase in the IUC for vehicles before 2007, but we will also propose a reduction in the IUC to a maximum of 25 euros per year until its total extinction. Mr. Minister [das Finanças]Fernando Medina, it will be only two euros per month in the coming years,” Rui Rocha revealed during the third national meeting of party groups in Porto.

Rui Rocha defended that the increase in the IUC provided for vehicles before 2007 in the 2024 state budget proposal is “fiscal cruelty” and emphasized that the party does not agree with this measure, stressing that “the guarantees of [Fernando] Medina are worth very little.”

“Fernando Medina stated that it was only two euros per month, the increase in the IUC was only two euros. I am sensitive to that argument, in fact, it is two euros per month, but Mr. Prime Minister and Minister of Finance “If it is only two euros per month to rise, it is also only two euros per month to fall” , he added.

On Tuesday, the President of IL announced in statements to journalists in Parliament that the party would propose in the budget process the withdrawal of the increase in the Single Circulation Tax (IUC), also saying that he distrusted the guarantees of the Ministry of Finance that there is an annual increase limit of 25 euros.

Costa accuses of wanting to withhold information about the privatization of TAP

The leader of the Liberal Initiative accused the prime minister of being incompetent and “again withholding essential information from the Portuguese” about the privatization of TAP.

“It is incredible how António Costa, even if he finally takes the right path, namely the path of privatizing TAP (…), because even there Antonio Costa is incompetent and must bear the veto of the President of the Republic because the document supporting the privatization is not clear enough and again seems to want to leave out essential information from the Portuguese,” said Rui Rocha.

“According to IL’s understanding, [o Presidente da República] did well,” said Rui Rocha, arguing that the document did not guarantee the transparency of TAP’s sale or acquisition.

“This process must be transparent so that the specifications are known at least in general terms, so that the Portuguese can have an assessment of the negotiations that will be conducted with potential TAP stakeholders,” he argued.

Rui Rocha also defended that IL “will not allow” the TAP privatization process to be used by the PS to “deceive the Portuguese”.

“[O processo de privatização] cannot be used by the PS to deceive the Portuguese, through excessive guarantees given to the buyer, giving the impression that the result of the sale is better than what it will actually be, which increases burdens on the Portuguese entails. he considered.

“Walking towards the abyss” in health

Rui Rocha said it was “absolutely unacceptable” that the government was “letting the country go towards the abyss” after warning that November could be the worst month in the National Health Service’s 44 years.

We are on the eve of, depending on ongoing negotiations, the most dramatic November in healthcare. This is absolutely unacceptable,” said the leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL).

Rui Rocha argued that regardless of the outcome of negotiations between the government and the doctors’ unions, “it is absolutely unacceptable for the government to allow the country to move towards the abyss.”

The leader of the Liberal Initiative accused the government of not taking action and stressed that the Prime Minister, António Costa, “did not come to power yesterday, but eight years ago”.

The leader of the Liberal Initiative assured that the internal process for choosing the party leader for the 2024 European elections is still ongoing, limiting himself to noting the “availability demonstrated” by João Cotrim de Figueiredo.
