PS Congress scheduled for March and Pedro Carmo is president of the organizing committee

This Saturday, the PS National Committee scheduled the party’s next congress on March 15, 16 and 17, and elected Socialist leader Pedro do Carmo as president of the organization with 85% of the votes.

According to the Congress Organizing Committee (COC), the list led by Pedro do Carmo, member of the National Secretariat, former leader of the Baixo Alentejo Federation and former President of the Chamber of Ourique, defeated the alternative list of lawyer Pedro Rodrigues Pereira, who as with the minority sensitivity of Daniel Adrião, who registered 12% of the votes.

In the coming weeks it will be up to the COC to present a proposal on the location where the XXIV National Congress of the PS will be held, although the Socialist leaders admit that this could take place in Guimarães.

The PS National Commission has also scheduled elections for deputies and direct elections for the post of general secretary for March 1 and 2 (two weeks before the congress), a position to which António Costa, leader of the Socialists since 2014, will return. to apply for another two years, until 2026.

At the same meeting it was also established that the elections for the presidents of the PS federations will take place on February 2 and 3 and the federation congresses on 17 and 18 of the same month.

The electoral laws for the sections and municipalities of this political power are scheduled for January 12 and 13.
