“We cannot agree more with the reasons given by the President of the Republic,” he stated, before adding: “In fact, there is no guarantee that it will be possible to preserve strategic interests with the privatization from TAP. guarantee about the scope of the privatization, the assets that will or will not be sold, and there is no guarantee about the transparency of the privatization process.”

In her speech on the sidelines of an initiative of the Bloco de Esquerda at Praia Formosa in Funchal, Mariana Mortágua emphasized that the “only way to avoid these risks is not to privatize the company,” since “of all the companies that have been privatized, none was a good privatization.”

“The only way to protect strategic interests is to stop this privatization,” he declared, then emphasized: “And anyone who has doubts about this, go see what happened to PT, go see what happened to CTT happened, go see what happened to CTT, see what happened to CIMPOR, go see what happened to ANA, which manages the airports in Portugal, so that we can talk about what the privatizations were in this country, who has gained from it and what the country has lost in public resources, but also in strategic control.”

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Friday vetoed the government decree setting the conditions for the reprivatization of TAP and asked the executive to clarify “the ability of the state to monitor and intervene in a strategic company as TAP; the issue of disposal or acquisition of assets even before privatization; transparency of the entire operation”.
