Responding to Pedro Nuno, Carneiro says he does not accept “lessons on how to fight the right.”

José Luís Carneiro said on Sunday that he would not accept “lessons on how to fight the right.” The statement comes hours after one of the other candidates for the PS leadership, Pedro Nuno Santos, said he expected Carneiro to fight the right rather than attack.

When the candidate for the PS leadership (and current Minister of the Interior) launched an initiative in Porto, he recalled that started his “political career precisely by winning a room on the right [Baião]the PSD and CDS, still very young”. He had said something similar on Saturday during the party’s National Committee meeting.

In short statements, José Luís Carneiro said as much there is “still a long way to go for talks” between the candidates to succeed António Costa in the party “and also with the militants and the Portuguese”. “Today I leave here a very important proposal for SMEs, which can help 97% of companies in Portugal create jobs,” he said.

Faced with the insistence of journalists for a response to Pedro Nuno Santos’ statements, José Luís Carneiro recalled that both are “comrades who respect each other and who wage a democratic struggle within the Socialist Party”.
